4th e-Learning and Distance Education Conference

Virtual University of Pakistan organized 4th e-Learning and Distance Education Conference (ELDEC) with the theme “e-Learning and Distance Education: Envisioning the Future: Rethinking, Reshaping, Redesigning Education ” at M. A Jinnah Campus Lahore today. A big number of national educationist and delegates from Indonesia and Malaysia are participating in the mega event. This international conference is being organized by the Virtual University of Pakistan in collaboration with University of Education Lahore.  The Conference provides a useful forum for participants to share their experiences under this theme and will provide opportunities for networking that may lead to extended collaboration in Distance Education and e-Learning among individuals and institutions. A total of 30 research papers are being presented in the conference. The conference is spanned over two days and comprises of 5 keynote speeches, 25 lectures in 5 technical sessions.

Dr. Naveed A Malik, Rector Virtual University of Pakistan inaugurated the conference. In inaugural address he warmly welcomed the delegates and said that the Virtual University of Pakistan is honored with the presence of galaxy of intellectuals from the world. He further said that this conference will help in bringing academicians and educationists from variety of disciplines together and will provide a platform for sharing their experiences of the use of ICT in education in variety of novel and innovative ways. He further recommended having virtual network of mentors which is extremely needed for quality education.

Executive Director, Higher Education Commission Dr. Arshad Ali was the chief guest on first day. An international lineup of keynote speakers included Prof. Dr. John Arul Phillips, Dean School of Education & Cognitive Science, Asia e University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Prof. Dr. Tian Belawati, Former Rector of Indonesia Open University, Indonesia. The first day sessions were chaired by Dr. Najma Najam, Dr. Munawar Sultana Mirza and Dr. Mahmood Ahmed Bodla. A big number of scholars from various universities across Pakistan attended the event.
