Romanian envoy visits UMT.
LAHORE (DEC 11): The ambassador of Romania Mr. Nicolae Goia visited University of Management and Technology (UMT) where he delivered a talk on bilateral relations between Pakistan and Romania and how Romania is contributing to Pakistan’s educational sector. Addressing a high-level gathering attended by UMT’s top tier leadership, Mr. Nicolae said that Romania and Pakistan established diplomatic relations in 1964, and since then the bonds have gone a long way to bringing closer both the nations. He said Romania supported Pakistan in its membership of the Security Council and it would continue standing with Pakistan through thick and thin. He said Romania is the seventh largest European Union Market and it is a gateway to European Market of the Asian economic investment that other countries like Pakistan can take advantage of it. He said Romania is the fastest growing economy in Europe and there is a great potential for improving bilateral trade between the two countries.
He said prior to coming to Pakistan he held a different perception, which now has totally changed. Pakistan is a wonderful country and Pakistanis are extremely intelligent people. He said Pakistan is playing a critical role in causing peace and stability in the region and without it’s support terrorism could not be defeated at all. “The international community should understand that we cannot fight terrorism without Pakistan’s role”, the ambassador said. Romania is positively contributing to the development of Pakistan’s economy and now interested in its education sector part of which is his visit to various Pakistani institutions of higher education. He said currently 200 hundred Pakistani students are pursuing their studies in Romania and are being trained as engineers, doctors, IT experts, and businessmen. Mr. Nicolae said Romania is keen of investing in Pakistan’s higher education system, which is the only way out to wipe out extremism and speeding up real development.
The ambassador Nicolia Goia said he was delighted to visit UMT, which is one of the best universities in Pakistan. He said UMT is a ‘wonderful place of higher education’ and Pakistan is a fascinating country in many regards especially culturally and from the perspective of historical values. He said Pakistan is an extremely friendly country, with very competent and amicably people. He said he would like to connect Pakistani universities with their Romanian counterparts for exchange of research and mutual collaboration.
Mr. Nicolia further stated that there are 50,000 Muslims living in Romania who are fully integrated into the Romanian society and are enjoying full citizen rights. He said Romania, in her double capacity, as a member of EU and NATO is supporting the enhancement of the EU/NATO-Pakistan relations through an intensified dialogue and wider cooperation. He said Romania appreciates the excellent cooperation with Pakistan in the framework of the UN system.
Speaking on the occasion, Rector UMT Dr. Muhammad Aslam appreciated the ambassador for putting his efforts in strengthening bilateral relations between Romania and Pakistan. He said Romania is a country that shares many things in common with Pakistan especially its cultural heritage is quite rich. Dr. Aslam said UMT would like to start an interaction and future collaboration program with Romanian universities in order to benefit from one another’s’ best –
